Back in the Classroom

It’s Laura.

Just thought I’d take a moment to document and reflect on what’s happened these past two months. December 2023, two long-term subs quit. My principal told me and another resource teacher that we would be taking over those spots come January 2024. We got back from Winter Break. I had one day of “getting to know you” activities with both classes. I had them do the Name Tents (google Sara VanDerWerf Name Tents!) and got them into VRGs right away! The task was my shirt - how many teaching things did I love to do? No one finished, but we had a great discussion during the consolidation! There was a little bit of time left, so I let them start to tackle the 2024 puzzle (google Sarah Carter 2024 puzzle!).

The next day was the Science Diagnostic. Didn’t see my classes.

Then I went off to DC with 17 Safety Patrols (why did I agree in August to do this?). Twenty-two hours on a train. Each way. We did have a blast in DC, though (and it was flurrying!)!

Came back. Taught adding and subtracting fractions in record time (that dang pacing calendar that we are still behind in!) using BTC. Almost gave up BTC. Still persevering, though, in the multiplying fractions unit. Still behind in the pacing calendar. I’m trying SO HARD to give kids experiences to build their Number Sense. I have also decided to teach students strategies to learn and understand their multiplication facts. Wish me luck!

Hugs!
