The Writing on the Classroom Wall

It’s Laura.

Steve Wyborney is one of my favorite people in the whole world, and he doesn’t even know it (well, maybe he does now!). I attended the 2017 NCTM Regional Conference & Exposition in Orlando, Florida and had the pleasure of attending his session. It was probably then when I added his book, The Writing on the Classroom Wall, into my Amazon cart. Fast forward four years. I got his book this Christmas (thanks, Mom!) and read it in two hours. Now, this is not a book to digest in two hours. Go back and read that sentence again. I intentionally skipped the “Key Questions” at the end of each chapter. I didn’t even use a highlighter - this time around. I knew I just wanted to find out more about what his thoughts were. I decided (without consulting Karina first - sorry, Karina!) that THIS BOOK is going to be our next book club book. It’s going to be a long book club. There are so many great gems in this book, and I want to savor them all! If 2020 and 2021 have taught me anything, one lesson I have learned is that I (we?) should constantly be reflecting. Not judging our past selves. Not feeling bad about past choices. But keep moving forward. I’ll (well, really, I’m sure it will be Karina!) be posting an interest survey on Twitter (and somewhere here on our website) to see who wants to spend some much needed time reflecting with me using Steve’s book as our guide. I can’t wait to see what my (our?) future holds.

Hugs! :)
